Shared Reading ( I )
Shared reading provides many opportunities for students to discover the pleasures of reading. Students gather around the teacher in a group setting while reading from a Big Book with a pointer, smart boards, or other devices. Students are introduced to different genres and authors,. During shared reading, students practice different strategies: echo reading or choral reading. Echo reading allows the developing reader to echo a more advanced reader. By imitating skilled reading, the developing reader gains confidence and develop important reading skills. Choral reading allows the class, as a whole, to read aloud with the teacher. Developing readers gain confidence with there reading skills and aren’t as anxious about reading aloud when they are apart of a group.
